Halo's First Assignment Is to Hold the Door

A fictional comedy from CyberBabiez. The characters and events are invented.

Halo expected the first academy assignment to involve a trumpet. Instead, Professor Fluff pointed to a door.

Please hold that for people, she said.

Halo waited for the rest of the instructions. Surely there would be a glowing sash or an important speech.

A cloud carrying three folders approached. Halo opened the door. The cloud said thanks and continued on its way.

That was it.

By lunchtime, Halo had helped a harp mover, a late student, and a professor balancing an improbable number of mugs. Nobody applauded. Everyone looked relieved.

At the review, Halo admitted the assignment had felt rather ordinary.

Professor Fluff smiled. Ordinary is where most people need help.

Halo returned to the doorway with renewed purpose and, privately, a very small trumpet drawn on the attendance sheet.
