The Souvenir Snow Globe Wants Better Weather

The snow globe sat in Mimi's office, looking gloomy.

'Always winter,' it said. 'Never even a light spring drizzle.'

Mimi stopped shaking it. The snow settled.

'Now it's winter with poor entertainment.'

She placed it beside a postcard of a sunny beach. The tiny houses inside turned toward the picture. Someone opened an imaginary ice-cream stand.

Within a week, the globe advertised itself as a tropical destination with unusual white sand.

Mimi asked whether this was honest.

'We describe the atmosphere,' said its miniature mayor.

She moved the beach postcard to a different shelf.

The mayor immediately approved a more accurate slogan: Lovely Views of the Office.

Bookings improved. Apparently, several tiny tourists had always wanted to see a stapler in its natural habitat.
