Things I Never Thought I’d Say… Until I Had a Baby

Before having a baby, I thought I had a pretty solid handle on life.

I knew what I’d say.
What I’d do.
What I’d never say.

And then I had a baby…

…and suddenly, I found myself saying things I never imagined would come out of my mouth.

“Don’t lick that.”

I don’t even know what “that” is half the time.

But somehow, it’s always headed straight for the mouth.

“How did you get that?”

You were right here.
I looked away for two seconds.

Now you’re holding something that definitely wasn’t there before.

“Please go to sleep.”

Not aggressively. Not dramatically.

Just a calm, slightly desperate whisper at 2:00 AM.

“Why are you crying?”

Followed immediately by:

“Oh… never mind.”

Because somehow, you figure it out two seconds too late.

“That’s not food.”

And yet… they disagree.

Strongly.

“Where did the other sock go?”

There’s always one missing.

Always.

No explanation. No closure.

“We just changed your diaper.”

How is it possible?

How?

“Be gentle.”

Repeated 47 times in a single day.

Still ignored.

“What’s in your mouth?”

This one comes with urgency.

Because whatever it is… it’s not supposed to be there.

“Let me just set you down for a second…”

Famous last words.

The Realization

At some point, you stop questioning it.

These phrases just become part of your daily vocabulary.

Things that once sounded ridiculous now make perfect sense.

What Changes

You realize that parenting isn’t just about caring for a baby.

It’s about adapting to a whole new world where:

  • Normal rules don’t apply

  • Logic is optional

  • And everything is slightly unpredictable

The Funny Part

If someone had told you before…

You probably wouldn’t have believed them.

But now?

You get it.

Final Thought

Having a baby doesn’t just change your life.

It changes the things you say, the way you think, and what you consider “normal.”

And honestly?

You wouldn’t have it any other way.
