The pillow rang reception shortly after Mimi checked in.

'I'd like a room with a better view.'

The receptionist pointed out that pillows generally faced the ceiling.

'Exactly. I've seen that ceiling.'

Mimi carried it to the window. The pillow admired the mountains but complained about the chair. Too firm.

She placed a cushion beneath it. The cushion requested mountain views too.

Soon the entire bed was arranged beside the window, including a blanket that claimed to have studied landscape painting.

Mimi sat on the empty mattress and enjoyed the sudden quiet.

A knock came at the door. Reception had sent complimentary chocolates.

The pillow asked whether they came with turn-down service.

Mimi ate one. 'You've already turned down everything else. I think we're covered.'
