Everyone knew the television remote. Kit wanted to hear from the smaller remote beside it.

'What do you control?' she asked.

'I prefer to maintain some mystery.'

Kit pressed a button. Nothing obvious happened.

The remote looked pleased.

Roo commissioned an investigative segment. The team checked the fan, the lamp, and a toy train. All denied involvement.

At last, Kit found an old instruction booklet. The remote belonged to a string of decorative lights packed away in a cupboard.

'You've been retired for months,' she said.

'Semi-retired. I still attend meetings on the coffee table.'

The interview became the channel's most popular program.

The television remote requested equal airtime. Kit declined. Its proposal contained too many channels and kept trying to skip the interesting questions.
