The Trophy Is Larger Than the Achievement

A fictional comedy from CyberBabiez. The characters and events are invented.

Captain Bo won the award for returning one pencil to its cup. The trophy required two assistants and a wider doorway.

His acceptance speech thanked the pencil, the cup, and everybody who had believed in the possibility of bringing them together.

Mr. Buttons asked where the trophy would go.

Bo suggested the desk. The trophy occupied the whole desk, leaving nowhere to put the pencil cup.

The cup moved to the floor. The pencil soon followed.

By celebrating the achievement, they had undone it.

Professor Duck proposed a smaller certificate. Bo reluctantly agreed.

The desk returned to normal, and the pencil went back in the cup.

This time, nobody made a speech.

Bo discovered that finishing a useful little task could feel satisfying even when it did not require a moving crew.
